Tips and resources to help you communicate
clearly with whales

The intuitive mind is a sacred gift and the rational mind is a faithful servant. We have created a society that honors the servant
and has forgotten the gift.
~ Albert Einstein

It’s helpful both for us and the whales if we don’t expect every whale we encounter to be a master, and every communication to be about the healing of the universe, or to rock our souls. Some conversations are mundane. I remember one of my first conversations with a whale while in the water. I found myself quite accidentally between a mother and an escort at the surface--very close! They were within a few yards of me on either side. I could only see the eye and a bit more around it of the escort. I was mesmerized, awe struck. The escort who was staring at me said, “You’re really small!” I laughed and choked because the laughing moved my mouth piece and water seeped in. It was very funny to me. At the time, it was the closest physical encounter I had had with a whale at that time, and as I was aglow with the deep honor of being in his presence. He was clearly not aglow from my presence-- just sort of sizing me up and seeing how small humans are up close.

Every conversation with whales is as different as every conversation is with people. Sometimes we speak of the meaning of our existence in the universe. Sometimes we exchange love in ways that change us forever. And sometimes we talk about the mundane things in life like our difference in size.

We do best for them by simply loving them unconditionally, meeting and accepting them just as they are on their journey, be it mundane or exciting. We do best for them by giving them the very things we need ourselves-- by listening, learning and loving together.

If you are new to telepathic animal communication, you may want to take classes, read books on the subject or reach out for the help of a mentor. All of us are naturally telepathic. All of us can talk with animals.

A few practical tips are listed below:

Become clear about your intention: Why do you want to have a conversation with a whale? Of course, sometimes we have spontaneous conversations with whales, just as we do with each other as humans. However, when we initiate contact with a whale, even as we remain open to whatever comes up in the conversation, it can help to have some sense of our intention beforehand.

  • Do you want to talk with whales you saw during a whale watch or swim trip about your experience? Do you want to tell them what it was like for you, and ask them how they experienced your encounter? If so, picture that particular whale, and respectfully ask to be connected with the spirit of that whale.
  • Do you want to talk with any whale who is interested in connecting with humans to talk about their lives as whales? If so, you may want to ask the overlighting deva of all whales (an angelic being or guide to all whales) to connect you with a whale who would like to talk with you about this.
  • Do you want to connect with a whale who wants to be a teacher or guide? If so, ask with love and humility to be connected to the soul of a whale who desires this. You may want to ask the overlighting deva of whales to help you make this connection.
  • Do you want to express your love and gratitude to them? If so, just do so! They will receive it and feel it and benefit from it!
  • If you are not connecting with an individual whale you know by name or one you’ve seen and can picture or remember energetically, ask the Overlighting Deva of whales for help, or, simply state your intention to the universe and ask for a representative from the whales who may wish to connect with you.

Trust what you get. Don’t censure what you receive. Just receive what comes. Trust what you hear, sense or feel. If something is not clear, tell this to the whale, and ask for clarification. Remember, this is a conversation, not a one way psychic reading of the whale’s energy. It’s ok to say you don’t understand something. Keep the conversation flowing. Be unselfconscious. Trust your natural intuitive ability.

Always give thanks, and offer something back to the whales. Always, always say thank you for their time and energy. And if you are asking for guidance and assistance, please don’t just ask them for help without offering to give something back to them--your love, your prayers, healing energy for the whales of the earth, perhaps participation in activist efforts to help save whales, or lifestyle choices that help vs. harm whales. You’ll fine dozens of things you can do for the whales here.

When you are ready to connect, consider these suggestions:

  1. Create a quiet, private space where you can be undisturbed by people, other animals, noise or other distractions. You may want to have a journal nearby to keep a record of your communication experiences and to just give yourself the opportunity to process the experience.
  2. Close your eyes and allow the quiet and stillness to begin to fill you, inviting all thoughts, worries or tension to leave you with every exhale of your breath. From this place of conscious stillness and peace, place one or both of your hands on your heart, right over your heart chakra. Become present with the great love that lives in your heart. Being present in our heart helps take us to the place of our soul, the place of deep wisdom within, the place that connects us to the souls of those we love.
  3. Ask for divine support for the connection you wish to make with a whale. Inter-species communication is a sacred experience and deserves acknowledgement of the spiritual energy involved. The requests for divine support may be from the overlighting deva of whales, it may be from your own spiritual guides and or from divine beings to whom you pray or receive guidance. I always ask for the presence of the spirit guides of the animals with whom I am talking, as well as my own guides. I also always ask for the help of St. Francis to guides and bless the communication. Not only is divine help available, but knowing it’s there for us and that we do not need to make these connections alone and without help, helps us remain humble, keeping animal communication in the realm of the sacred--where it belongs.
  4. Make an intention to be cleared of any pre conceived ideas you may have about whales or a particular whale (read section on Conversations with Whales for more about the importance of not filtering). If you are not already familiar with energetic clearing, grounding and protection and its vital importance in any psychic and healing work, you may want to listen to this CD set on energetic boundaries.  Ask your sources of divine support to help you be completely open and clear to what the whale has to share with you.
  5. Picture a beautiful, luminous cord of energy connecting you to the soul of this whale, a cord from your soul to theirs. Feel the naturalness of this, the ease of this. Gently, and humbly, send this whale your love, and ask to be connected in conversation.

And just gently begin...say what you wish to say, and ask what you wish to ask. Quietly listen and receive.

May you have glorious, rewarding and enjoyable conversations with the whales!
